Het Paisley motief is een van de meest veelzijdige, geliefde en bekende patronen.
It can be found on baby clothes, ties, and shirts, but also on Steampunkers and bikers! This lecture discusses the history of the paisley motif, its origins in Iran (where it is known as buteh), and how it spread across the world via India. The motif can be found from Africa to East Asia. More than 175 years ago, buteh became known as the motif that was widely produced in the Scottish town of Paisley.
Augusta de Gunzbourg is the Head of Exhibitions and Education at the Textile Research Centre. She has been studying the collection for years and tries to share as many stories as possible. Her research focuses on historical fashion and Asian textiles.
The lecture will be given in English.
