Met werken van de Leidse kunstenaars Rachel Bellwinkel en Peter Zuur.

Featuring works by Leiden artists Rachel Bellwinkel and Peter Zuur.

Through her work, Rachel Bellwinkel invites us to slow down and
look anew at the world around us. For if you feast your eyes, you discover an endless variety of rhythms and
structures in which traces of time, use, and change also become visible. Dried earth, tree bark, but also manhole covers, bricks, and shadows reveal patterns that continue to fascinate. They form the starting point of her work.

To capture these structures, Rachel uses photography, among other tools, as part of her research process. From these observations emerge works in which material research takes center stage. She works with, among other things, self-woven fabrics and acrylicone mixed with marble sand, where structure and tactility are central.

Peter Zuur creates 'his own' buildings from traces of existing architecture. He often deceives the eye through extreme frog's-eye or bird's-eye perspectives. Seemingly nonchalant but highly effective, he works with torn pieces of paper, cardboard, and light-sensitive paper.
He uses all kinds of tape, acrylic paint and inks from Epson cartridges, and the matte white of Tippex. Bright orange or fluorescent green in perspectival lines contrast with the shadowy planes of purple, greyish-gray, and azure blue.

Everything is painted so intermingled and with such transparency that an image emerges suggesting pleasant lingering. The recent works show luxury bungalows with swimming pools. The reflection of the houses in the water reinforces the windless emptiness.
