Young Rembrandt School
Contact
From the age of seven, Rembrandt van Rijn attended the Latin School, from 1616 to 1620. The Latin School was the forerunner of the current gymnasium and was intended as a preliminary course for university.
At the Latin School, only Latin was spoken and taught. It was also here that Rembrandt first learned to sketch. He took drawing lessons from Henricus Rieverlinck, his first drawing teacher.
It is no longer possible to have Rembrandt sketch you at the Latin School. This experience is now closed, but don't worry. Starting in the spring of 2026, a revamped Rembrandt Experience will open, with a new approach and interactive elements. Visitors can once again immerse themselves in the life and work of the young master—in a surprisingly contemporary way.
