Whether you choose to put your best foot forward or go for pedal power, Leiden has plenty of great walking and cycling routes for you. You can tread in the footsteps of the young Rembrandt, or go back to the time of the Pilgrim Fathers. And there are special walking routes for children, sometimes combined with augmented reality or a special app. Ask in the VVV if your telephone is suitable!

Prefer to cycle? Besides a range of fun and enjoyable cycling packages in the city, Leiden makes a great base for exploring the surrounding area by bike. Cycle along the many waterways, past country estates and the bulb fields in spring, or just keep going until you reach the coast! The fresh air of the surrounding countryside is a fine contrast to the knowledge and culture city of Leiden.
