Leiden from the water
28 km of canals, 88 bridges!
Coming with your own boat?
Leiden is easily accessible with your own boat. The quaysides are low and there are mooring places throughout the city. There are jetties for mooring sloops at strategic locations, and many of the quaysides have mooring rings. Do take care when passing under low bridges, there are a lot of them in Leiden! At the Leiden VVV tourist office you can buy the 66 bridge route for € 3,-.
Sleep overnight in the marina?
Leiden has two marinas, at Beestenmarkt and De Poort. The marina at Beestenmarkt is for day visitors only, so you are not permitted to stay overnight. However on the outskirts of the city centre this is permitted. You can reach the marina from the east via the Zijl, the Rijn-Schiekanaal and the Oude Rijn. For more information, please call the harbour master's office at +31 (0)71 – 521 96 75.
