The collection of the Bibliotheca Thysiana includes approximately 2500 scientific books and thousands of pamphlets.

This library was founded by will in 1653 by the jurist Johannes Thysius (1622-1653). The building was designed by city architect Arent van 's-Gravensande and completed by his successor Willem van der Helm. The original interior and the book collection have been preserved virtually undamaged. The collection of the Bibliotheca Thysiana includes approximately 2500 scientific books and thousands of pamphlets.
