Rembrandt was ten years old when he attended Latin School from 1616 to 1620. The Latin School was the predecessor of today's grammar school and was intended as preparatory education for university. Only Latin was spoken and taught there. It was here that Rembrandt first learned to sketch. He took drawing lessons from Henricus Rieverlinck, his first drawing teacher.

It is no longer possible to have your portrait sketched by Rembrandt at the Latin School. This experience has closed, but don't worry. From spring 2026, a revamped Rembrandt Experience will open here, with a new approach and interactive elements. Visitors will once again be able to immerse themselves in the life and work of the young master — in a surprisingly contemporary way.
