European expert on Japan
The museum is named after Philipp Franz von Siebold, who lived in the house from 1832 to 1845. He lived and worked in Japan for several years, during which time he collected numerous objects. His efforts resulted in this museum, and the Panorama gallery provides an overview of the collection. The Siebold collection is a unique time capsule of twenty to thirty years of Japanese culture.
