Groeneveldstichting
This almshouse was founded in 1878 and built in 1882, thanks to a bequest from the Leiden pastor Eduard Cornelis Groeneveld, who died in 1879.
The courtyard was originally intended for widows of pastors and their unmarried daughters. When their husband or father died, they often lost their home (the parsonage) and income.
