The Morspoort, located on the Morssingel, is one of the two remaining city gates of Leiden. The gate owes its name to its former surroundings. At that time, the area around Leiden was a marshy meadow area called De Morsch (meaning: swamp). The Morspoort stands in the neighborhood of d’Oude Morsch, which also refers to this old swamp. Colloquially, the Morspoort is also known as the Galgepoort (Gallows Gate), because it used to be a prison. The rooms of the new, characteristic hotel feature beautiful oak flooring, a relaxing rain shower, a luxury box-spring bed, TV, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, a safe (suitable for laptops), coffee (Nespresso) and tea making facilities, and a beautiful view.
