The Gemeenlandshuis is believed to be a 14th-century building, purchased in 1578 by the Rijnland Water Board.

In that year, an archive vault was built in the courtyard: the ‘yseren comptoir’. The facade dates from 1598. In the mid-17th century, Pieter Post adapted the interior to the fashion of the time. This particularly affected the courtroom and the hall. During a restoration (1963-1971), the house was restored to its 17th-century appearance as much as possible.
