Scheltema
Long before this former blanket factory became a cultural center, Jerry Bey, the singer of songs about life from Leiden (brother of De Zangeres zonder Naam and known for Hallo Bandoeng), worked here.
Today, it is a vibrant center for contemporary art, both visual and performing arts. From 1822 to 1958, the building housed the J. Scheltema Janszn blanket factory. Over the course of the 19th century, the factory was gradually expanded, including buildings on the other side of the Marktsteeg. These were connected to the main building by a footbridge.
