What if you could hear the hidden language of nature? Orchidées is a breathtaking concert performance by acclaimed Irish composer Nick Roth, in which the 100-million-year-old evolutionary history of orchids is turned into music.
Performed live by renowned cellist Kate Ellis, the work combines a solo cello with immersive video imagery to reveal the extraordinary beauty contained within the DNA of one of the world's most diverse families of flowering plants.
Developed in collaboration with Prof. Barbara Gravendeel (Scientific Director of the Hortus Botanicus Leiden) and orchid specialist Brandon Tam (The Huntington, Los Angeles), Orchidées bridges the gap between science, art, and ecology. By translating genetic patterns into sounds, the performance invites the audience to experience evolution as a living composition and to reflect on what orchids can teach us about resilience in a rapidly changing world.
