Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken (ELO) is the regional knowledge centre for heritage research, education and information, with over nine kilometres of centuries-old archives and an extensive collection of books, prints, posters and films. ELO also provides information and advice on archaeology, monuments and sustainability.

Pilgrim documents database

The Pilgrims fled from England to Leiden via Amsterdam in 1609. They lived here for almost twelve years before setting sail for America four hundred years ago. An extensive record of their lives in Leiden can be found in marriage certificates, title deeds, burial registers, last wills and even court records. After scanning and conversion, these documents are now accessible to everyone through Erfgoed Leiden! For more information, click on Pilgrims and on database.

Molen de Valk

Did you know that Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken also manages Molen de Valk? Molen de Valk is a tower mill turned museum. Built in 1743, it is the last original mill of the nineteen that once adorned Leiden's ramparts. The wings of the mill can regularly be seen turning, and the walkway offers an incredible view over Leiden.
