Public transport

Leiden is easily accessible by public transport. Trains are going from Amsterdam Centraal (35 min) and Den Haag Centraal (12 min) every ten minutes. From the station, you can reach Beestenmarkt in five minutes and Breestraat in ten minutes on foot. The bus station is located in front of Leiden Centraal, and with numerous bus lines, you can easily reach various parts of the city or the region. Buses depart every five to ten minutes from Leiden Centraal to the city center.

You can check-in and check-out with your creditcard, smartphone and applewatch. The new way to check in and out in public transport is already possible throughout the Netherlands.

Use the NS app or the 9292 app to plan your journey. These apps provide information on departure times, arrival times, and routes.

To check in with your OV-chipkaart, hold it against the card reader at the entrance of a train, bus, tram, or metro until you hear a beep or see a green light. To check out, do the same at the exit to ensure the correct fare is calculated for your journey.
