The Academy Building is the university's oldest building. Today it is mainly used for ceremonial ceremonies, such as graduation, inaugural lectures and promotions.

Originally this was the monastery church of the Dominican Nuns, consecrated in 1516. After the first Dutch university was founded in 1575, the Academy became its main building. The Hortus botanicus is situated behind the building.
