This almshouse was founded in 1624 by the will of timber merchant Bartholomeus Willemszn. van Assendelft, the widower of Geertruyd Pieterdr. van der Werff. The will was not executed until 1681. Fifteen houses had to be purchased or built, intended for impoverished families. In the 20th century, it stood empty for some time and was used by a distillery. In 1974, it underwent extensive restoration.
