Sint Petruskerk

A photo of St. Peter's Church

On July 25, 1933, St. Peter's Church on Langebrug burned down. With its columned façade, this church closely resembled the Hartebrug Church and served the Roman Catholic community in the western part of the city center. Immediately, thoughts turned to rebuilding.

In the early 1930s, Leiden was given the opportunity to build a large new residential area on the south side of the city. The urban development plan was laid out in the so-called Expansion Plan 1933. It was obvious that the necessary churches would also be built in this new neighborhood.
