Today, the World Museum Leiden is dedicated to Matariki, the Māori New Year.
Matariki is the Māori name for a group of seven stars that announce the arrival of a new year in New Zealand. The appearance of these stars marks a special moment of reflection, encounter, and renewal: a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Indoor activities are accessible with a museum ticket; outdoor activities are free of charge.
