The Monward Consort is presenting a concert featuring seventeenth-century music as part of the celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of Jan Steen. Paintings by Jan Steen will be displayed during the concert, allowing music and visual art to enhance one another in a unique way.
Jan Steen (born in 1626) was one of the most important Dutch painters of the Golden Age and is renowned for his lively, often humorous domestic scenes. To mark the 400th anniversary of his birth, the Monward Consort—in collaboration with the Jan Steen in Holland Foundation—presents a program that brings the atmosphere of his paintings to life through music: ranging from boisterous domestic merriment to quiet reflections on love, desire, and the transience of life.
