Ceramics by Rita Spaan
Contact
Ceramist Rita Spaan draws inspiration from nature. The material challenges her.
“Taking a breath of fresh air. A walk along the sea, she takes you with her, makes you forget everything for a moment, and recharges you. The landscape, the ruggedness, the textures, the transience, the clarity of the water, the reflection of light, and the many shades of blue captivate and move me again and again.”
All her pieces reflect her connection with nature and her immediate surroundings. Through the various facets of the ceramic material and its infinite possibilities, Rita Spaan continues to explore and experiment. The interplay between inspiration and craftsmanship remains her creative challenge. Most of Rita Spaan’s ceramics are wheel-thrown, sometimes combined with hand-built elements. The pebble, or “Pebble,” frequently appears in her work as a form—as a bowl, (under)plate, two-part box, or mini urn.
