On March 29, 2026, Leiden will be dedicated to its rich history and remarkable stories during City Walking Day. Spread across three time slots (1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM), visitors can join one of nine themed walks, each offering a unique perspective on the city.

From Literary Leiden and the footsteps of Rembrandt to hidden courtyards, historical highlights, and the life of Jan Steen—whose 400th birth anniversary is celebrated in 2026—there is something for everyone. Other themes include Leiden’s Relief, its criminal past, and the influence of refugees on the city.

All walks are guided and start at different locations throughout Leiden. English-language tours are also available, and the event coincides with the Leiden Barrel Organ Day.
