Rembrandtplein
Rembrandt spent most of his childhood here in Weddesteeg.
After their marriage, his parents Harmen Gerritsz. van Rhijn and Cornelia (Neeltje) van Zuytbrouck bought the mill from Harmens' stepfather. It was a malt mill, similar to De Put, where malt, the raw material for beer, was ground. They moved into a house near the mill, in the Weddesteeg. In 1606, Rembrandt was born here as their ninth child.
Facade stone
The facade stone dates from 1906, the 300th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth. At that time, his birthplace was still standing here, albeit in a dilapidated state.
