De tuin van de smid [The blacksmith’s garden] is a teahouse right in the centre of Polderpark Cronesteyn. This park is located in the Kleine Cronesteynse polder, also known as Knotterpolder. Covering 90 hectares, this piece of reclaimed polderland is situated between the A4 motorway, the train track to Alphen aan de Rijn, the Rhine-Schie canal and the N206 motorway.

De tuin van de smid works with fair-trade, diet-friendly, organic products, purchased wherever possible from small businesses in the immediate vicinity. The Teahouse is opened every day from 10:00 to 17:00. De tuin van de smid has 3 rooms available for rent: the Teahouse itself, the Green Room and the Haystack. There is room for meetings, dinners, weddings and parties and the rooms are also highly suitable for training courses.

The Green Room, about 100 m2, can serve as a room for meetings, training courses and parties. When using theatre seating, there is room for 80 visitors; for a reception it can accommodate up to 120 people. The room is equipped with an overhead projector, flip-chart, and Wi-Fi and has its own patio. A six-metre-long solid wood table provides seating for 22 people and the visitors have a great view of the polder and free-range chickens wandering on the grounds.

The Haystack is less luxurious and smaller (8 people), but does exude that country charm and is highly suitable for small workshops or assignments in break-out sessions for a larger plenary meeting. In the summer it is nice and cool, in winter there is a heater. The Teahouse proper is only available for rent outside opening hours. Between 17:00 (in May through September 18:00) and 01:00, the entire building (including Teahouse) is available for rent, including the patio and/or surrounding grounds.

For an active break between activities, De tuin van de smid provides an option to attend a blacksmithing workshop. Attendees can learn the basic principles of blacksmithing. The park is also perfect for a beautiful walk.

De tuin van de smid serves excellent cuisine. They offer catering options to suit any meeting: from a lunch meeting including informal drinks to a festive buffet or barbecue on the patio.

De tuin van de smid is accessible in about 15 minutes on foot from Leiden Station Lammenschans and the Lammenschans bus stops. The A4 motorway is close by and there is sufficient parking space around the park. In the Rhine-Schie canal, near De tuin van de smid, there is an option to tie up a boat.
