Prof.dr. Mark de Boer, professor of Infectious Diseases, in particular antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic policy, internist-infectiologist, LUMC
On June 9, 2023, Mark de Boer gave his inaugural lecture: Antibiotic resistance and the search for the boundaries between under- and over-treatment with antibiotics. In his inaugural lecture he explained that more and more people worldwide are affected by infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to several antibiotics. Why is this happening and how big is the problem? But above all, what can we do about it? In the coming years, he wants to investigate, among other things, how modern medicine should anticipate increasing antibiotic resistance worldwide.
