Pilgrim walk with guides from Gilde Leiden
On November 28, many Americans celebrate the annual holiday of 'Thanksgiving'. This festival dates back to the Pilgrims. After their departure from Leiden to America in 1620, they managed to reap a first successful harvest in November 1621 with the help of the local population.
The thanksgiving festival for this successful harvest is said to have been inspired by the October 3 thanksgiving service that took place annually in the Pieterskerk during the Pilgrims.
In the run-up to Thanksgiving, you can take a Pilgrim Walk with guides from Gilde Leiden on Sunday, November 24, which will take you past places that still remind you of the Pilgrims' stay in Leiden. The walk starts at 2 p.m. from the square near the Castle and lasts approximately two hours. The costs are €6 per person, payable in cash to the guide. You can choose between a Dutch or English-language walk. Specify preference when registering.
