The Canon of the Netherlands, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave and Leiden University Libraries organize Eureka! Live: an evening about personal stories behind science, scientists and science history in Rijksmuseum Boerhaave.

With a podium discussion with Louise Fresco, spoken columns, a drawing workshop and more, an ode to knowledge is paid and we conclude History Month in a festive manner.

Boerhaave director Amito Haarhuis opens the evening, after which presenter Garrelt Verhoeven (Leiden University Libraries) will talk to writer and scientist Louise O. Fresco. This year she wrote the essay for History Month, which has the theme 'Eureka!'. Fresco reflects on one of its main characters, Georg Rumphius - who had to endure countless hardships to realize his groundbreaking work for botany - and on her own career as a scientist.

The conversation is framed by spoken columns by astronomer Ewine van Dishoeck and science historian Geertje Dekkers. Outgoing Minister of Education, Culture and Science and mathematician and physicist Robbert Dijkgraaf concludes the plenary program.

Boerhaave director Amito Haarhuis opens the evening, after which presenter Garrelt Verhoeven (Leiden University Libraries) will talk to writer and scientist Louise O. Fresco. This year she wrote the essay for History Month, which has the theme 'Eureka!'. The conversation is framed by spoken columns by astronomer Ewine van Dishoeck and science historian Geertje Dekkers. Outgoing Minister of Education, Culture and Science and mathematician and physicist Robbert Dijkgraaf concludes the plenary program.

After this, you can explore the museum yourself. Geertje Dekkers teaches you how to draw according to the instructions of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and Ewine van Dishoeck explains the James Webb scale model. Mart van Duin, curator of Manuscripts and Archives (Leiden University Libraries), will tell you all about the Rumphius manuscripts and you will take a tour of key pieces of the Canon of the Netherlands.
