I Smell a Rat

Smell a Rat is a workshop by Lauryn Mannigel. In her work she explores the aesthetic and political potential of peoples' body scents. Because she knows: the interplay of body scents constitutes a person's ‘olfactory identity’.

This workshop focuses on females body scents that have a history of particularly negative associations. Through presentations, discussions, and hands-on experiment, you will learn more about gender-related perceptions of female body scents. Special attention is being given to the history and current social and cultural norms in The Netherlands and Leiden. How do you react on women's body scents? And what wins: disgust or curiosity?
