In addition to permanent and long-term ensembles such as the ICP Orchestra, his own Ab Baars Trio and the Duo Baars-Henneman, he is constantly developing new, small-scale initiatives. He has had a strong musical bond with trombonist Joost Buis for a long time, dating back to an Ellington project by the Ab Baars Trio from 2005: Kinda Dukish. Wherever possible, the two still play as a special duo. That duo has now been expanded into a trio, with the addition of the Belgian tuba player Berlinde Deman. She is best known for the big band Flat Earth Society, but she also made an impression in the project Secular Psalms by the American trumpeter Dave Douglas. In it she could also be heard on serpent, a medieval predecessor of the tuba. With both instruments she offers Baars a wonderful addition to the sound palette for his compositions, and with the elaboration of this in the improvisations, this trio is of course also doing well.
